Micromachined 95 GHz waveguide-fed plastic horn antennas

چکیده
Waveguide-fed plastic horn antennas have been demonstrated for W-band applications using a versatile and cost-effective micro hot embossing process. The three-dimensional (3D) polymer structure with internally coated conductor is composed of a pyramidal horn, an E-plane waveguide bend, two resonant cavities for impedance matching and a connecting rectangular waveguide. Measurement results show broadband characteristics in W-band with a return loss of better than –10 dB; the bandwidth is 25.2 GHz between 76.5 and 101.7 GHz (26.5%), and the 3 dB beam widths of the Eand H-plane gain patterns at 95 GHz are 26◦ and 23◦, respectively. The antenna gain is 17.04 dB at 95 GHz and the cross-polarization discriminations for Eand H-plane are 19.5 dB and 22.2 dB, respectively. Fabrication of Alternating-Phase Fed Single-Layer Slotted Waveguide Arrays Using Plastic Materials with Metal-Plating
Lightweight single-layer slotted waveguide array antennas are fabricated using plastic materials with metal-plating. A plastic material that has good heat-radiation properties is investigated. Three types of antennas are fabricated by milling, using ABS resin, heat-radiating plastic, and aluminum alloy. In measurements, all three types of antennas are confirmed to have almost the same VSWR and ...
متن کاملDevelopment of Low Profile Substrate Integrated Waveguide Horn Antenna with Improved Gain
In this paper a new low profile Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) probe-fed H-plane horn antenna structure with improved gain is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of two waveguides including a rectangular and a taper one, in which both, first and third modes of the structure are simultaneously excited leading to a uniform field distribution along the radiating aperture of the antenna a...
متن کاملMicromachined Waveguide Components for Submillimeter-wave Applications
The high cost of fabricating waveguide components is one of the primary factors limiting the development of terahertz technology. This paper reviews the development of an inexpensive micromachining technology that is suitable for the frequency range from 500 GHz through 5 THz. Our first effort was a 585 GHz direct detector that allowed us to measure the beam patterns of our new micromachined ho...
متن کاملMicromachined Antennas for Integration with Silicon Based Active Devices
In this thesis micromachined antennas suitable for on-chip integration with silicon based active devices are treated. The emphasis is put on compact 24 GHz antennas, capable of being integrated in commercial SiliconGermanium (SiGe) processes using low temperature post processing micromachining techniques. Antenna types covered are the slot loop antenna, wire loop antenna, meandered dipole and t...
